16-CTEK-2455-Spring_Senior_cinema_DukeIsTopsThe1938_613x463A 21-year-old Lena Horne lights up her film debut, a vivacious jazz musical featuring an all-black cast. She plays the star attraction in a show produced by a small-time promoter (Cooper, founder and MC of the Apollo Theater’s famed Amateur Nights), who gets her big break—or so it seems—when she’s signed by a New York agent. The Duke Is Tops is, above all, a showcase for a number of the era’s most talented black entertainers, including the singing group Cats and the Fiddle and dancer Marie Bryant.

BAM partners with the New York City Housing Authority to provide participating senior centers and community-based organizations with subsidized bus transportation to and from BAM for Senior Cinema.

All Senior Cinema screenings start at 10am. Reservations are required and can be made up to three weeks in advance. Senior Cinema offers seniors 65 and older free admission to repertory classics, with complimentary popcorn and soda. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-seated basis. All cinemas are wheelchair accessible and offer infrared systems for people who are hard of hearing upon requests. For reservations, call 718.636.4122.
