The faculty-led student groups at The New School / School of Jazz are top-level ensembles that often perform at jazz clubs in New York City. The Jazz Group will start the evening with big band music of swing and bop. The Music of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers Ensemble will perform in an authentic style devoted to Blakey’s work. These performances are directed by faculty member Charles Tolliver. (The Jazz Group’s recital begins the program at 7pm; the ensemble performs works of Art Blakey starting at 9pm.) FREE.
